In the Book Series of Deserted, the protagonist, Michael is a main leader of a group after he is found by a soldier named Jakob.
Michael grew up in his apartment in New York City. He was awakened one night by an Amber Alert going off on his phone. Curious, Michael looked out his window only to see Police cars and SWAT vehicles all over the streets, evacuating civilians. An N.Y.P.D car pulls in front of Michael's apartment and a few officers run inside and begin evacuating civilians. When a Police officer knocks in Michael's door, Michael is surprised and begins asking questions as to why this is happening. The police officer moves Michael, and about 13 other civilians into the back of a SWAT truck.
